SB Nation:最もセクシーなショットを打つ男

Hideki Matsuyama has a cult following on Twitter and elsewhere for a reason. It’s because when he hits the ball with a golf club that is not a putter, it is often the sexiest thing in the world of golf.
He’s not a big bomber with quite the power off the tee of a DJ or Rory. But the ball-striking display he puts on is nonpareil. He’s the master of the “straight ball” ProTracer image. It’s so good that it keeps him in majors, near the top of those most important leaderboards of the season, even when his putting dips into negative territory in the indispensable strokes gained statistic (he won Jack Nicklaus’ typically loaded Memorial Tournament in 2014 with negative sg-putting).

bleacher report:この先何年もゴルフ界に影響を及ぼす若き才能

アメリカの著名なスポーツ電子メディアであるbleacher reportのGianni Verschuerenによる記事です。

The title at the WGC-HSBC Champions caps off a great year for the 24-year-old, who recorded his best-ever result at a major when he took fourth place at the PGA Championship earlier this year. He’s the latest in a long line of young, exciting talents set to dominate the sport for years to come.

Surging toward the top of the world rankings, the only step left for Matsuyama to take is to win a major.
The Japanese star whipped an elite field at the WGC-HSBC Champions for his third PGA Tour title, and his 10th victory overall. He turns 25 in February.
The talent never has been a question; he ranks among the best ball-strikers on the planet. As usual, it comes down to his putter, and Matsuyama was on fire in Shanghai, rolling in 29 birdies for the week.
Matsuyama will eventually join Y.E. Yang as the only Asians to win a men’s major. Don’t be surprised if he breaks through next year.

The golfing world has been talking about Hideki Matsuyama for a few years now and this week in Shanghai he took another big step towards fulfilling the promise he has displayed since he was a teenager.

But Matsuyama, who was the lowest scoring amateur at the Masters as a 19-year-old, looks to me to be the best prospect from the continent.
He seems to be the real deal: there have been too many top players praising him and the quality of his swing to think otherwise.
He is now up to a career-high sixth in the world rankings, with every player above him a Major winner, and landing one of those four top events – or perhaps a FedEx Cup – is the obvious next rung on the ladder.
The former world amateur No1 has recorded top 10 finishes at all Majors, including a tie for fourth at this year’s US PGA Championship, but has a particular affinity with the Masters.
He has been tied for seventh and fifth in his last two visits to Augusta. It is suited to a good ball-striker like Matsuyama, and the depth of the field naturally increases the chances of success.
With a strong end to the year assured and experience of winning around the world now behind him, Matsuyama will be looking at the 2017 Masters as the next target in his exciting progression.
